New Zealand is located in the South Pacific ocean about 2,300 kilometers (1,450 miles) east of Sydney Australia and about 9,000 kilometers (5,600 miles) west of South America. The country consists of two main island and several smaller ones.
The total population is 4.5 million. The capital city is Wellington, population 350,000 and the largest city is Auckland population one million.
The country has a western style government elected every three years.
The climate is temperate but warmer from south to north. The top of the North Island is almost semi-tropical.
